Cache Valley Merit Badge PowWow

Somehow, we got involved in the Boy Scout Merit Badge Rendezvous held at the American West Heritage Center this past Friday and Saturday. I was asked to teach the Citizenship in the World Merit Badge. I was told there would be three classes, each to last about three hours, and that in each of these classes their be approximately 40 boys. That was based on the preregistration. That's a pretty fair contingent of 11-13 year olds who had been sitting in a classroom  for the past five days. Oh well, I was up to the challenge. As the time for the class to begin approached, I became aware that the class was going to be much larger than expected. Many boys, who had not preregistered started showing up and wanted to be a part of the class. I would never turn anybody away. It's a good thing the good Lord blessed me with a strong set of vocal cords and some better than average lungs. The boys were helpful, courteous, and kind as they are taught to be in the Scout Law. The classes, all three of them, went off with out a hitch, the boys and their leaders all learned some important aspects of being good citizens in the world and many even took the time to personally thank and compliment me upon completion of the class. All in all, their were about 700 scouts plus their leaders at this event. I was able to teach about a third of them. It was an awesome experience for me. I am grateful that our son, Stephen, and his staff at the Logan BSA office, and a goodly number of volunteers were able to pull off this event on a beautiful and busy fall day in Cache Valley. It was great to see their family all pitching in, working together to make good things happen. I Love them all so very much and am proud to be a part of their busy lives.. Below are just few pictures of the event, at least the part I was involved in.

Reaching For Light

Reaching for the Light! It allows both trees and people to grow!
This Picture was taken while hiking on the Crimson Trail along the so-called "China Wall" on the south side of Logan Canyon above Spring Hollow Campground. Not your typical walk in the woods.

A Special Day for All of Us

Today was another special day. We had the opportunity to be with Nikki Jackson and his family when he was baptized. He is a very special young man, who has been led by the hand of the Lord to this very day. It has been our privilege to work with them as the entire family has prepared for this day and the rest of their lives. It was inspiring to see Ron Jackson baptize his son, 15 year old Nikki. Our grandson, Mason, is in the same math class as Nikki at Logan High School and they have become good friends. It was good to see these good friends together on Nikki's baptism day, as he made sacred covenants with the Lord. which will help him to be able one day to stand in the presence of the Lord. May God bless you always, Nikki.
The work is moving forward, just as the Savior admonished his disciples to do. We are so blessed to have the restored gospel and priesthood authority to perform these necessary sacred ordinances.
Mathew 8:19-20
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord.
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past
All safe and blessèd we shall meet at last.
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!
Below are just a few photos to remind of this very special occasion.

Bouquets of Wild Flowers

Once I was young! I recently came across this painting and it reminded me of my childhood. Oh, if all children could be so lucky. My Mother even put dandelions on my birthday cake in place of candles. I would bring her bouquets of flowers, everything from dandelions to alfalfa blossoms. I have been blessed to see beauty in the small things, and that has made a huge difference in my life.

Our Chinese Friends

appreciative. One of the people who came, was with us for the first time. He arrived in the U.S. from the People's Republic of China just ten days ago and will be studying toward an advanced degree in animal science at USU. He has a 13 year old son and a wife who will be joining him here later this year. He had heard about our English Class and asked a fellow student to bring him to the Church where it is held. Emily, who has attended our class before, brought some of her friends with her. We, of course were very happy to have them. They are all such wonderful people. They talk of how they are taught not to believe in God and that all religions are bad (the opiate of the people), but then they say something like this. "But in my heart, I think it's more likely there is a God and that there is good in some religions". They know almost nothing of the Mormons, but they are curious. We try not to be pushy in the least way, but let it be known, that we would be glad to tell them more about our faith. Tonight I was walking along the shore at Tony Grove lake with one of the young Chinese women. I was trying to be quiet and let her talk. Finally she said: "Mormons, I want to learn more about Mormons." She wanted to know when the church meetings start on Sunday here in Logan. Of course, we have lots of options, including even a small Chinese Group, which is attached to our ward here in Logan. We attended Sacrament Meeting with them last Sunday It is exciting to see how the Lord's work moves forward, and to know what a blessing it can be to all of mankind. We feel blessed to be a part of it. We are so glad to have our wonderful ward mission leaders at our side in this work. Below are a few pictures taken this evening at Tony Grove Lake.
