High Creek Hike

“Give,” said the little stream,
“Give,” oh, give, give, oh, give,
Give,” said the little stream,
As it hurried down the hill;
“I’m small, I know, but wherever I go,
The fields grow greener still.”
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give away, oh, give away,”
Singing, singing all the day,
“Give, oh, give away.”
My hike today took me up High Creek near Richmond, Utah into another part of the Mount Naomi Wilderness Area. I really didn't have very high expectations and even wondered if I should go. I didn't sleep especially well last night and so began the day rather slowly. I finally made the decision to go and chose a trail that I knew was, for the most part, a good trail and I was not trying to reach any specific destination. I just wanted a few hours out in nature and to work up a good sweat. I began the hike at the High Creek trail head. It follows along a beautiful, clear, stream. I was immediately taken with the beauty and the energy of the stream as it hurried downward toward the valley. My thoughts went back to my days as a young Primary child in the old Lanark Ward singing "Give Said the Little Stream." It is interesting to me how simple things taught in childhood return to your mind throughout life and influence our thoughts and actions 65 years later. After a couple of miles on the trail today, there was a fork in the trail. On a whim, I decided "to take the one less traveled." I'm glad I did. After a couple of miles hiking up the trail I came to beautiful waterfall. The stream suddenly cascaded over a series of ledges and boulders, The surrounding area was lush and green. There was a growth of moss on the rocks and trees near the falls and wild flowers bloomed in the sunshine as if to say:"Thanks" for the refreshing moist air near the stream and the falls. I, too, felt a sense of invigoration as I looked upon this unexpected beauty and tried to find a good angle for some photographs. Below are just a few of the results of my day alone with my Maker. I love these times and am grateful.
