Green Hill Reflections

There is a Green Hill far away!
Today, I stood on a green hill over looking my home town, Lanark, Idaho. I had come to pay respects to my parents and others who touched my life for good, whose bodies now lie interned beneath the lush green grass, surrounded by tokens of remembrance, flowers, flags, and epitaphs. My heart filled with gratitude for their love, their labor, and their example, which helped to shape my life. With moist eyes I struggled to control my emotions. Then my mind turned to another "...Green Hill far away, beyond a city wall, where the dear Lord was crucified, who died to save us all."  I looked out again across the valley from the green hill where I stood and silently gave thanks to Him who loosed the bands of death. "I marvel that He should die for one so rebellious and proud as I." May we never forget!

Afternoon Walk in Springtime

My afternoon walk yielded a few pretty pictures. Surprise, Surprise! I am grateful for the rain and the vibrant colors it left behind.

Gratitude for the Temple

As many of you know, we live close to the Logan Temple. We finished our mission some time ago and have now been called to work at the Temple again as officiators. We will be working every Thursday and Friday on the evening shift. We are excited to be back and I know we will love the work and all the people who come and go each day. I can't think of anything better to do with our time at his stage of our lives. We are grateful for our callings and the opportunity to serve. We are grateful for health and strength sufficient to be actively involved in this important cause. We are also thankful to live close to the Temple so that we do not have a long drive after our shift finishes at about 10:00 PM. Another blessing for me of living so close to the Temple is that I get to see it every day and observe this beautiful and sacred building in its many moods. The Temple is always a place of peace, but the changing weather and seasons of the year are always casting different shades of beauty on the Temple and the beautiful Temple grounds. Today was another such day as the storm clouds began to roll in from the south. I captured a few rather interesting and unique pictures of the Temple to add to may collection. Feeling blessed and grateful!

Don't Blink

Don't blink! Your grand kids/kids are growing up way too fast. I just ran across this picture taken a few years back. Stephen's Mason is now six foot three, as is Philip's Garrett and Gavin, the littlest one here, can look his dad straight in the eye. Where do all the moments go? Savor the moments. They pass so quickly.

Types and Shadows in Springtime

I love Spring time. Beauty all around, cloud shrouded mountains, migrating, nesting, and mother birds with their little ones, green grass, and spectacular displays of flowers, warm days, and cool nights. We do live in a beautiful world. The earth lives anew. Types and Shadows of God's love for us!!

Iris and Her Mother- Mothers Day

I want to wish my wonderful wife, Iris, a very Happy Mother's Day. She is the joy of my life, and I am so glad that she is the Mother of our awesome children. Without her our family would literally not exist. Without her love and Christlike attributes none of us would be nearly as blessed as we are and the world would not be nearly as good as it is. I love to see her smile and hear her laugh. She brings joy into the lives of so many. She knows no stranger and is always so loving toward all she meets. I continue to learn from her good example and count my blessings every day. I consider it a miracle that I ever came to meet her and persuade her to be my wife.
I, also, would like to express my gratitude to her dear mother, Ethel McMichael, who brought her into the world and who raised her up to be the loving, caring, and righteous woman she has become. Goodness doesn't just happen. I am grateful for all of the mothers who have touched my life for good.

Angel Mother

"All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother."
― Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln and I have two things in common.
We were both born in a humble log cabin, and I, like him, owe all that I am or ever hope to be to my angel mother.
I will one day see her again and wish her a happy Mother's Day. In the meantime I shall try to live each day so as to make her happy.

Oh What a Beautiful Morning

Oh, what a beautiful morning! Oh, what a beautiful day!

A Place of Peace

I know a place that provides shelter from the the storms of life and strength to help us through the ones we must face.

Sometimes even real princesses like to play in the dirt.

Gratitude and Graduates.

The past two days have been filled with blessings in our family. We now have three more college graduates. Justin and Alison both graduated from Utah State today, and our eldest grandson, JT, graduated from Weber State yesterday. We are beyond proud of their accomplishments. They have persevered and reached this important milestone in their lives. They have wonderful families who have been superbly supporting of their efforts and it has paid off. Education should be a lifelong endeavor and I am sure these three will continue and enjoy learning in the years to come, but will most likely appreciate the chance to take a little breather now they have officially graduated. Love you all so very much and couldn't be prouder of all you do and are. The picture below was taken at a celebration for the graduates hosted by Chalisa, Justin's wife, and family this afternoon.

Cache Valley Merit Badge Marathon

I was happy to be a part of the Scouting Merit Badge Marathon held in Logan at the Cache County Fair Grounds this past Friday and Saturday. There were over 2000 young men and leaders there, all of whom have pledged to "DO A GOOD TURN DAILY". I saw some of the good turns personally and had the opportunity to help more than 150 of these young men learn what it means to be good citizens in this beautiful world. Boys become better men because of Scouting, Men become better husbands and fathers because of Scouting. The world is a better place because of Scouting. Thanks to all of you for being there and for the wonderful young men and leaders you all are. I was so proud of our son, Stephen, who worked so hard and effectively behind the scenes to make this whole thing happen. GREAT JOB, STEPHEN and YOUR STAFF together with all the wonderful VOLUNTEERS. THIS EVENT WAS AWESOME

Graduates Party at Justin and Chalisa's

Most of our family was able to get together for a little celebration at Justin and Chalisa's place to honor Justin, Alison, and JT's graduation from college, We are so proud of all of them and always seem to have a lot of fun when we get together. Lot's of food, and lots of laughter. It doesn't get much better than this.
